The information on this page is for students on the MA/Diploma course in Newspaper Journalism, and others doing shorthand as part of their university course.

Other students should click the "Self-Funded Programme" button above.

Our Teeline Fast-Track programme is designed especially for university journalism students who wish to learn Teeline quickly and effectively. The emphasis is on simplicity and a light memory load. For a successful outcome, it is essential that in addition to the tutorials, you consolidate your learning with additional revision, reading and practice of about 15 - 20 minutes per day. The trick with learning a skill like shorthand is "little and often" rather than a big block of time, once a week.

 The Course Timetable...

  • Week 1-3  The theory of Teeline is covered
  • Week 4     First Theory test
  • Week 5     Speed of 40 wpm
  • Week 6     Speed of 50 wpm

We think the programme is great but don't take our word for it...

"Without shorthand I would not have been able to take the notes, or write the story, so thank you for teaching me Teeline!"

E-mail: from John O'Doherty, City University Journalism student:-

Subject: Thanks for Teeline! My Article could not have been done without it!

Hi Margaret

I thought I would drop you a line and say hello. I have been in New York for the past month, writing the Wall Street report every day. It's hard work and I'm kept very busy, but I'm learning a lot and the people are really nice. I am attaching below a link to a piece I wrote on healthcare in the US. As far as I know it made it into all the paper editions today (Friday).

I had to talk to five people over the phone, (four of whom made it into the story) for the piece, and was furiously scribbling my notes in shorthand while talking. Without shorthand I would not have been able to take the notes, or write the story, so thank you for teaching me Teeline!

John
